Who are we?

Who is Barnett Designs? Barnett Designs is just one part of our story. Both Cliff and Debbie have a creative side. Cliff builds furniture from the lumber that is harvested from dying pine trees on our ranch.Debbie is an artist. (Check out the website at www.DebbieBarnett-art.com.) We began life as a couple in 1973. Near the end of the 1980s we began running registered cattle as B&B Livestock. Since'73 we have worked in many things. Cliff was a logger and also worked the ranch until he went to just ranching about 20 years ago. Debbie has worked as a writer for ranch magazines and local newspapers and as an artist as well as ranching. We have raised registered cattle of three breeds, quarter horses and Australian Shepherd dogs. The lumber side of the business is part of our ranch operation because we can't let the beautiful old pine trees on our ranch go to waste when the insects kill them. Cliff builds beautiful one of a kind pieces of furniture during his off hours in the winter from the lumber he mills as Barnett Designs.

Ranch Roots

Our ranch has been in the family beginning with Debbie's grandfather, Richard Balbach, who bought the ranch in the early 1900s. Debbie's dad, Robert (Bob) Balbach, owned and operated the ranch for many decades and Cliff and Debbie took over the ranch in the early 2000s. Registered cattle, first Herefords then later Salers and Black Angus were the focus of the ranch. Bob also worked off the ranch as a logger for many years. When the Barnetts were married in '73, Cliff also worked as a logger. In the 1980s Bob and Cliff bought a circular sawmill to harvest the dying pines. We used the lumber on the ranch for corrals and building projects in our homes and barns. In the summer of 2025, Cliff updated the equipment with a bandsaw mill that now cuts logs up to 36 inches wide. Lumber is among the products we sell from our ranch. We also pasture cows for other producers as well as harvest hay.
